3 poisoned by wild mushrooms

*
HPC logo (Eng version)

People are advised not to eat wild mushrooms from parks or the countryside as they can be poisonous.

The Centre for Health Protection made the plea today following a suspected food poisoning case involving three people who ate wild mushrooms from a Kowloon City park.

Aged nine to 40, the three family members developed diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting and dizziness 30 minutes to two hours after eating the wild mushrooms on July 20.

The mushrooms belonged to the species lepiota cristata, commonly known as 'stinking parachute' which is toxic and inedible.

Mushroom toxin poisonings are generally acute and there are few antidotes.

Staff will take appropriate measures to prevent people from collecting wild mushrooms in Leisure & Cultural Services Department venues.
