The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed an enterovirus-71 case involving a three-year-old boy, bringing this year's total to 11.
The boy developed a fever and oral lesions, plus blisters and rash over his upper limbs on May 22 and has since recovered without hospitalisation. Those in contact with him at home are asymptomatic. However, his nursery recorded nine hand-foot-mouth disease cases (including this one) from May 10 to 27. Some of the children have recovered while others are in stable condition.
While all of them do not require hospitalisation, or have developed complications, they have been advised to stay at home for two weeks after recovery.
The centre called on people to take precautions against EV-71 infection and maintain good personal and environmental hygiene.
