Local farms to resume chicken supplies

*
Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department

Arrangements will be made for local farms to send their chickens to the wholesale market tomorrow.

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department said the agreement was reached after its officers met with some chicken farmers and wholesalers today.

After farmers expressed concern about the suspension of local chicken trading, the department arranged a meeting with wholesalers who have been involved in the sale of local chickens and urged them to resume trading as soon as possible.

It was then agreed to arrange for chicken farms to resume sending chickens to the Cheung Sha Wan Temporary Wholesale Poultry Market from tomorrow evening.

The chickens will then be sent to retail outlets for sale on Thursday.

The department said it will remain vigilant in its surveillance of avian influenza.
