Open forum on food labelling set for Thursday
*
Food & Environmental Hygiene Department

Public views on the proposed labelling scheme on nutrition information will be invited at an open forum on the issue Thursday.

The forum is part of a public consultation exercise which runs until January 31 to seek views on the Government's nutrition labelling scheme.

Under the proposal, pre-packaged foods will be required to carry labels with information on nine core nutrients plus energy. The nine core nutrients are protein, carbohydrate, total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sugars, dietary fibre, sodium and calcium.

The Deputy Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Eddy Chan will open the forum while Food & Environmental Hygiene Department Consultant Dr Ho Yuk-yin will give details on the scheme and take questions. Other officials and academics will also be present.

Representatives of related trades and interested parties will be invited to express their views, and there will be a discussion session for interactive communication among the participants.

The forum runs from 2.15pm to 5.15pm at the Convention & Exhibition Centre. For seat reservations and enquiries call 2319 8531.
