Sixteen sections of nullah will be decked over the next decade, in a $1.2 billion project.
The Drainage Services Department said today the land obtained from decking will be used for surface works like urban greening, amenities and road widening.
The sections include three on Hong Kong Island, six in Kowloon and seven in the New Territories. Eight will be decked within three years and four in six years.
The Government can complete eight in three years as no complicated engineering issues and land constraints are involved. The nullahs at Mong Kok Road, Lung Chu Street, Joyful Building, Summit Terrace, Kwai Wing Road, San Kwai Street, Yip Shing Street, and Fung Fai Terrace.
Four other nullahs will be decked by 2011 as time is needed to resolve more complicated engineering and land constraints. They are Jordan Valley Nullah, Rambler Crest Nullah, Flower Market Road Nullah, and Tonkin Street Nullah.
The remaining four will be decked by 2015 because co-ordination with related developments, such as road widening and drainage improvement, is involved. They are Queen's College Nullah, Kai Tak Nullah, Staunton Creek Nullah, and Fuk Man Road Nullah.
