Foreign currency reserves reach US$226.9b

Hong Kong's official foreign currency reserve assets amounted to US$226.9 billion at the end of September, up US$3.6 billion on August, the Monetary Authority says.

 

Including unsettled forward contracts, Hong Kong's foreign currency reserve assets at the stood at US$229.2 billion, up US$5.9 billion on August.

 

Hong Kong is the world's seventh-largest holder of foreign currency reserves after the Mainland, Japan, Russia, Taiwan, India and South Korea.

 

The total foreign currency reserve assets represent about nine times the currency in circulation or 50% of Hong Kong dollar M3.
