Hong Kong and Guangdong have agreed to boost co-operation on the modern information service industry in the coming year.
The Hong Kong-Guangdong Expert Group on Co-operation in Informatisation held its third meeting in Guangzhou today. Officials of the two places reviewed last year's work and discussed the group's way forward.
Deputy Government Chief Information Officer (Operation) Stephen Mak said in the past year both sides worked together to promote the testing of mutual recognition of digital certificates issued by Hong Kong and Guangdong, Radio Frequency Identification applications, software outsourcing services and open source software.
"Apart from close collaboration between government bodies, the IT industries of the two places also explored co-operation opportunities through organising different exchange activities."
Future agenda
Both places agreed the expert group will emphasise the modern information service industry, and strengthen co-operation in various areas.
They include:
* the testing of applications using digital certificates issued by Hong Kong and Guangdong; and, * research and development and application of Radio Frequency Identification, electronic customs clearance, service outsourcing, digital entertainment, open source software, mobile and wireless technology applications and information exchange platform.
