A public workshop on the initial findings of the consultancy study on the development of spa and resort facilities will be held on April 7.
The Tourism Commission said the findings have ascertained the potential for resort developments in Hong Kong.
Such developments may take the direction of Chinese medicine spas, medical-clinical based spas and eco-tourism spas that leverage on Hong Kong's advantages and unique situation. There are potential sites suitable for this type of development.
Open-minded
The commission said the Government is open-minded on the way forward and will take into account the final recommendations of the consultant and views collected.
However, in developing such facilities, there will be a need to ensure sustainable development and take due account of environmental concerns.
The workshop will be conducted by an independent moderator. The consultant will brief participants on the study's initial findings. Group discussions will then follow.
Views considered
The consultant will take into account discussions at the workshop and other views collected in finalising the consultancy study.
Relevant stakeholders including academics, professional bodies, green groups and community leaders have been invited to the workshop. Interested parties are also welcome to register by March 22.
Public views on the findings can be sent by May 7 to 2/F, East Wing, Central Government Offices, Lower Albert Road, or faxed to 2801 4458, or emailed to tcenq@edlb.gov.hk.
