Policy Address
Policy Address hailed as forward-looking

Chief Secretary Henry Tang and Financial Secretary John Tsang have praised Chief Executive Donald Tsang's 2009-10 policy speech as pragmatic, comprehensive and forward-looking.

Mr Tang said today's address outlined a number of initiatives in terms of regional co-operation, governance and building a caring society, with many being extremely progressive.

In tandem: Chief Secretary Henry Tang, Financial Secretary John Tsang and Executive Council Convenor Leung Chun-ying hail the 2009-10 Policy Address as pragmatic.

"The Policy Address has consolidated or strengthened the four existing economic pillars and also has some forward-looking industries in six major areas. We feel this will give us a good platform to build a more diversified and more balanced, all-around economy," Mr Tang said, adding he and the Government will work to deliver and take forward these initiatives, hoping the Legislative Council and the community will work with the administration too.

Noting the speech outlines the Government's policy direction for the coming year and its medium to long term economic development blueprint, the financial chief said the initiatives will facilitate Hong Kong's development into a knowledge-based and diversified economy.

Echoing their views, Executive Council Convenor Leung Chun-ying and some non-official members said the address has dealt with issues a wide cross-section of the community feels most concerned about, including economic, employment and conservation prospects, as well as family and youth issues.
