Appointments
*
Four senior officials named to new posts
*
On the move: (In order of appearance) Edward Yau, Elizabeth Tse, Duncan Pescod and Jennie Chok assume new posts.

The Government has announced four more senior appointments involving experienced Administrative Officers with proven leadership and management abilities, Secretary for the Civil Service Denise Yue says.

 

Deputy Secretary for Education & Manpower Edward Yau will take up the post of Director of Information Services.

 

Deputy Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Elizabeth Tse will assume the post of Director of Administration.

 

Efficiency Unit Head Duncan Pescod will take up the post of Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic & Trade Affairs to the European Communities.

 

Former Deputy Secretary for Security Jennie Chok will succeed Alex Fong as Principal Hong Kong Economic & Trade Representative in Tokyo.

 

"I am confident that under their leadership, the concerned departments and offices will continue to do their best to serve the people of Hong Kong, meet the challenges ahead and further the interests of Hong Kong overseas," Ms Yue said.

 

About the officials

Brief biographical notes on the four officers are set out below:

 

* Edward Yau

Aged 45, Mr Yau joined the Administrative Service in August 1981 and rose to his present rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade B1 in April 2005. Mr Yau has served in the former Security Branch, the former City & New Territories Administration, the former Health & Welfare Branch, the former Transport Branch, Correctional Services Department and the former Finance Branch. He was Deputy Director-General of Trade from January 1999 to May 2001, and Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Washington from May 2001 to April 2004. He has been Deputy Secretary for Education and Manpower since April 2004.

 

* Elizabeth Tse

Aged 43, Ms Tse joined the Administrative Service in August 1984 and rose to her present rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade B1 in April 2005. Ms Tse has served in the former Security Branch, the former City & New Territories Administration, the former Economic Services Branch, the former Finance Branch, the then New Airport Projects Co-ordination Office and the former Trade & Industry Branch. She has been Deputy Secretary for the Treasury - later renamed Deputy Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Treasury) - since July 1999.

 

* Duncan Pescod

Aged 46, Mr Pescod joined the Administrative Service in August 1981 and rose to his present rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade B1 in April 2004. Mr Pescod has served in the former Home Affairs Branch, the former Security Branch, Lands Department, the former Urban Services Department and the former City & New Territories Administration. He was Deputy Secretary for the Civil Service from December 1996 to June 2001, and Deputy Commissioner for Tourism from June 2001 to November 2004. He has been Efficiency Unit Head since November 2004.

 

* Jennie Chok

Aged 54, Mrs Chok joined the Government in July 1972 as an Executive Officer and transferred to the Administrative Service in July 1985. She rose to her present rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade B in July 2002. Mrs Chok has served in the former Medical & Health Department, the former Education & Manpower Branch, the former City & New Territories Administration, the former Constitutional Affairs Branch and the former Trade Department. She was Deputy Secretary for Security from October 2000 to December 2005.
