Dr Yeoh has shown his commitment: CS
*

Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Dr Yeoh Eng-kiong's resignation has demonstrated his commitment to serving the public, Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang says.

Speaking to the media at the Central Government Offices today, Mr Tsang said Dr Yeoh is committed, dedicated and professional.

He has been fully aware of the pain SARS patients and their relatives are still suffering, and has dedicated his efforts to strengthen the medical system to defend against SARS and the bird flu, Mr Tsang added.

While the emotions of the SARS outbreak have led to an intense debate recently, Mr Tsang appealed to the public to stay calm, rational and open so as to strike a balance among interests of different sectors.

He also noted the accountability system aims to make Hong Kong's political system more democratic and open, and there is still room for improvement.
