Funeral for pilot to be held on Sept 16
*

A funeral with full honours for Captain Pang Fu-kwok of the Government Flying Service (GFS) will be held at Universal Funeral Parlour, Hung Hom, Kowloon at 10.15am on September 16.

A mourning ceremony open to friends, relatives, invited government officials, community dignitaries, members of the services and the public will start at 8.30am.

The Controller, GFS, Captain Brian Butt, representatives of various government departments, and staff of the GFS will lay wreaths and pay their last respects to the late Captain Pang, who was ranked Pilot I.

The hearse will leave the funeral parlour at 11am after the official ceremony. The cortege will then leave for Gallant Garden at Wo Hop Shek Cemetery for the burial service.

To respect the wishes of the family, no media will be admitted to the funeral parlour to cover the ceremony.

A selfless career

Captain Peter Pang Fu-kwok was born on December 12, 1968. He graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1992. After graduation, he joined Cathay Pacific Airways as a Cadet Pilot in November 1992.

In September 1995, he joined the GFS as a Cadet Pilot. He was promoted to Pilot I in December 1999.

Throughout his service with the GFS, he took part in many search and rescue missions, most of which were under poor weather conditions or in demanding flying situations.

His selfless approach to carrying out these rescue operations was well recognised and won Captain Pang the respect of his fellow aviators and a Controller's Commendation for one of the rescue missions.

Tragically, on August 26, 2003, he was killed in a helicopter accident while responding to an emergency callout.

He is survived by his wife and a 20-month-old son.
