Appointments

Public Service Commission members named
*

The Government announced today the appointment of Simon Ip and the re-appointment of Dr Elizabeth Shing as members of the Public Service Commission for a two-year term. Mr Ip's appointment is effective immediately. Dr Shing's re-appointment will take effect on June 1, 2003.

 

Mr Ip is the Senior Partner of Johnson Stokes & Master. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund and the Council of the Queen Elizabeth Foundation for the Mentally Handicapped.

 

Dr Shing is the Director-General of the Hong Kong Management Association. She has been a member of the Commission since 1999. She is a Member of the Consumer Council, the Electoral Affairs Commission and the Management Committee of the Consumer Legal Action Fund.

 

Dr Thomas Leung retired on May 1, 2003 after nine years of service. Ng Yeoh Saw-kheng and Christopher Cheng will retire from the Public Service Commission on June 1, 2003 and July 15, 2003 after serving on the Commission for eight and 10 years, respectively.

 

On behalf of the Administration, Secretary for the Civil Service Joseph Wong thanked Dr Leung, Mrs Ng and Mr Cheng "for their dedication, commitment and remarkable contribution to the Commission during their tenures. They have tendered invaluable advice to the Commission in upholding the quality and integrity of the civil service."

 

Haider Barma is the chairman of the Public Service Commission. Its other members are Vincent Chow, Frank Pong Fai, Eliza Chan and Wilfred Wong.
