'Do not hinder bailiffs': Police

November 14, 2014

Police are authorised to arrest anyone obstructing bailiffs executing court orders to remove road obstacles.

Police Public Relations Branch Chief Superintendent Steve Hui issued the warning today, saying officers will help bailiffs as instructed by the court.

Anyone obstructing the execution of the order is in contempt of court, he said, adding Police will take resolute action against people charging violently at the bailiffs.

He noted some people have incited others to reoccupy cleared sections of road after the removal action. Such acts, in defiance of law, will not be accepted by the public, and Police are duty bound to take action to preserve public order, he said.

The illegal occupiers’ lack of regard for the law, prolonged unlawful assembly and blockage of roads has already caused a severe impact on the rule of law.

He urged people to remove the obstacles and leave the roads with their belongings peacefully, and not occupy new sections of road.
