Acting Chief Executive Carrie Lam says the second phase consultation on constitutional reform will be conducted by the end of this year.
She told reporters before the Executive Council meeting today that she, together with Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Raymond Tam, met some legislators recently to discuss how to take forward the reform.
The Government is planning to launch the second consultation exercise this month or next, she added.
In response to the Federation of Students’ plan to fly to Beijing to seek talks with Mainland officials on reform, Mrs Lam stressed that the Central Government is fully aware of the students’ view, adding that there is no need for them to do so.
Noting that the students still insist on putting forward their requests for “civic nomination” and asking the National People's Congress Standing Committee to withdraw its August 31 decision on the election of the Chief Executive, Mrs Lam said there is no room to have another dialogue with students at this stage.
