Occupy Central organisers are responsible for ending the protests, Police Public Relations Branch Chief Superintendent Steve Hui said today.
He criticised the protest organisers for not showing the ethics or the courage to openly call for an end to the illegal occupations after having initially rallied people to block major roads.
“This is irresponsible and has blatantly disregarded the well-being of the students, as well as the interests of the general public, who have to endure the serious disruption of their daily lives,” Mr Hui said.
He added that the protest organisers should not shirk their responsibility by using the excuse that their demands will not be heard if they end the occupation.
Mr Hui urged them to respond to people’s demands by asking the protesters to go home, which is the only way to shoulder responsibility and to truly respect the rule of law.
