Police condemn protest violence

October 25, 2014

Police have condemned troublemakers who keep provoking officers, saying protests in Mong Kok have become violent.

Police Public Relations Branch Chief Superintendent Steve Hui said at a press conference today that when dealing with confrontations between protesters and their opponents in Mong Kok, Police action have been obstructed by people calling only for the arrest of those with opposing views and accusing Police of injustice.

He rejected the accusation saying it is unfair and unreasonable.

Since noon yesterday, five attack reports have been made concerning the Mong Kok protests, resulting in the arrest of six men.

Illegal road blockades and occupation of roads is causing the confrontation, Mr Hui added.

He stressed that violence during protests is illegal.

He said the current situation in Mong Kok protest areas is still radical and he appealed to students to leave and for parents not to bring children there.
