Chief Secretary Carrie Lam today visited Tuen Mun Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and the Centre for Health Protection to gain a deeper understanding of the frontline staff’s work on the lead-tainted water incidents.
Accompanied by Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man and a Hospital Authority representative, Mrs Lam toured Tuen Mun Hospital’s Ambulatory Care Centre to inspect blood taking arrangements for the Voluntary Blood Lead Level Screening scheme.
The hospital has been providing two-day blood taking services to students from kindergartens affected by lead in the drinking water. The Chief Secretary chatted with students and parents about the blood taking arrangements, and was briefed on the hospital's work procedures and services.
Mrs Lam then visited the Toxicology Reference Laboratory at Princess Margaret Hospital to learn about its measures for coping with the surge in workload, and inspected a blood lead level rapid testing device and a test result verification device.
Joined by Dr Ko and Health Director Dr Constance Chan, the Chief Secretary met with staff at the Centre for Health Protection's hotline centre, Programme Management & Professional Development Branch, Surveillance & Epidemiology Branch’s Non-communicable Disease Division and Emergency Response Centre.
She commended them for their untiring work, professionalism and dedication under huge pressure.
