Hong Kong needs an Innovation & Technology Bureau to co-ordinate and promote technology development and to further diversify the economy, Chief Executive CY Leung says.
Speaking to reporters today after returning from visits to Israel and the United Kingdom, Mr Leung noted that Hong Kong can no longer rely on manufacturing low-value products if it is to diversify its economy.
He said the Government has repeatedly submitted funding requests to the Legislative Council for the proposed bureau, but ultimately its establishment rests with lawmakers.
On the lead-tainted drinking water issue, Mr Leung said Government departments have worked together to resolve problems - from providing drinking water to the affected public housing estate residents to arranging blood tests - adding that all these efforts have been covered extensively by the media.
