The Centre for Health Protection today reminded people and schools to maintain good personal and environmental hygiene to prevent influenza after a kindergarten and a primary school reported outbreaks of flu-like illness.
A kindergarten in Causeway Bay reported an outbreak affecting 20 pupils aged three to six.
They developed a fever, cough and sore throat since January 18. All saw doctors and one has tested positive for influenza A (H3) so far.
A primary school in Hung Hom reported an outbreak affecting 21 students aged six to 12. They have developed similar symptoms since January 23. None have required hospitalisation.
The centre’s officers have visited the schools and advised them to adopt measures against influenza and other respiratory illnesses. The schools are under medical surveillance.
