The Centre for Health Protection reminds people and school staff members to maintain good personal and environmental hygiene to prevent influenza's spread after three schools reported outbreaks of a flu-like illness.
A secondary school in Ho Man Tin reported an outbreak affecting 20 students, 10 boys and 10 girls aged 12 to 15. They developed fever, cough and sore throats since January 19, and 16 of them consulted private doctors. None required hospitalisation.
A primary school in Wan Chai reported an outbreak affecting 16 boys and four girls aged 6 to 11. They developed similar symptoms since January 22. One of them was hospitalised and is in stable condition.
Another Wan Chai primary school reported an outbreak affecting 21 pupils and a female staff member. None were hospitalized, but one tested positive for influenza A virus.
The centre’s officers have visited and advised the schools to adopt measures against influenza and other respiratory illnesses. The schools are under medical surveillance.
