The Centre for Food Safety reminds the food trade of the ban on all edible oil of animal origins produced in Taiwan, and that they should stop using or selling those products.
The ban was announced on October 8 in response to the Taiwanese authorities' announcement that there was a re-emergence of substandard edible oil and a wide range of products might be involved.
The centre has been proactively investigating the sales of oil products produced by Taiwan’s Cheng I and Ting Hsin in the local market, and found that three local traders had imported lard from Ting Hsin. They are Hop Hing, Lam Soon and Rich Strong.
It also discovered that Maxim's Caterers had imported lard manufactured by Cheng I. The company claimed that the Maxim's Group had stopped using all lard made in Taiwan since September 8 and initiated a recall of the product concerned.
The centre has marked and sealed about 200 tonnes of edible oil of animal origins imported from Taiwan since October 8.
It will continue to follow up on the incident and take appropriate actions in a timely manner.
