The Centre for Food Safety today conducted a briefing session for the food trade to explain the requirements of the Food Safety Ordinance and the Food Safety Order issued following the Taiwan "substandard lard" incident.
The order was issued September 14, prohibiting the import and supply of all lard and lard products produced by Chang Guann company in Taiwan.
The centre reminded the trade to keep food transaction records and present them for inspection by the Director of the Food & Environmental Hygiene when necessary.
To enhance the communication, the trade was advised to set up an emergency hotline so the centre can obtain information to safeguard food safety.
Some members of the trade said they have encountered difficulties after the issuance of the order. However, they stopped the use of the concerned lard and lard products and recalled them.
Another briefing session will be held on September 24.
