Chief Secretary Carrie Lam says the Government will strive to arrange meetings between the Central Government and pan-democratic legislators to discuss constitutional development.
Speaking to reporters today, Mrs Lam said both sides have the intention to carry out open discussions on the issue.
She hoped that the meetings’ basis can be on ways to implement the decisions the National People’s Congress Standing Committee made last August, and to achieve universal suffrage in accordance with constitutional and legal requirements.
It is unrealistic and not meaningful to arrange the meetings if their sole purpose is to tell the Central Government its decisions will be rejected, she added.
