Chief Secretary Carrie Lam says Hong Kong people will be disappointed if the constitutional reform package is rejected, and urges people to work together towards the goal of universal suffrage in 2017.
She spoke after meeting District Council chairmen and vice chairmen today, to discuss the method for selecting the Chief Executive by universal suffrage.
She told reporters those present supported taking forward Hong Kong’s constitutional development according to the National People’s Congress Standing Committee decision. and agreed that society should seize the opportunity to achieve universal suffrage for the 2017 Chief Executive election.
They also felt that the Government should explain the issue clearly to the public to gain their support, Mrs Lam added.
During the consultation period, she would attend more meetings to listen to different groups' views, she said, including a youth forum to be arranged by the Youth Commission.
