Chief Secretary Carrie Lam says people should allow the political reform plan to go ahead, even if it does not suit their ideals.
Speaking to reporters today, Mrs Lam said the choice Hong Kong has is either allowing the political system to move forward or keeping the status quo, adding that electing the Chief Executive by one man, one vote will serve as a good foundation to further promote political reform.
She urged people holding different views to support the proposal and allow democratic development to proceed.
She said the Government has been studying public opinion polls, noting that so far most people feel the Legislative Council should approve the reform proposal.
Mrs Lam said the law clearly specifies the process to further revise the political system after the current proposal is passed, rejecting claims there will be no further constitutional development after the plan's passage.
