Executive Council non-official members have welcomed the Government's consultation document on methods for selecting the Chief Executive in 2017 and forming the Legislative Council in 2016.
The council issued a statement today which said the document's publication, which formally begins the consultation, is an important step towards achieving the goal of universal suffrage for the 2017 Chief Executive election, and turns a new page in Hong Kong's history.
It said all of its members hope the public can discuss and send views in a peaceful, rational, accommodating and pragmatic manner, to reach a consensus on universal suffrage for the 2017 CE election, and to properly handle work related to forming the Legislative Council in 2016.
