The Monetary Authority warns consumers of an email purporting to be sent from Public Bank (HK), which has a hyperlink to a fraudulent website.
The website (www.pbhksecure.com/publicbank.htm) asks people to enter their Internet banking account's user name and password. It looks similar to the bank's Internet banking logon webpage.
The bank has clarified it has not sent the emails and has no connection with the fraudulent website. It said it does not send emails asking customers to provide their passwords or verify their account information online.
Anyone who has provided personal information to the fake website, or who has conducted any financial transactions through it should contact the bank on 2541 9206. They can also report the case to Police on 2860 5012.
