$2.67m worth of illicit cigarettes seized

*
Customs & Excise Department

Customs officers have arrested a truck driver, seizing 1.4 million illicit cigarettes worth $2.67 million - and with a duty potential of $1.7 million - from his vehicle.

Officers yesterday saw workmen moving goods inside the truck in a Tin Shui Wai car park. They uncovered the illicit cigarettes and arrested the 48-year-old male driver. The cigarettes were mixed with cartons of plastic goods. They had entered Hong Kong via Man Kam To control point.

The driver has been released on bail.

Report illicit cigarette activities on 2545 6182.
