The Telecommunications Authority has served a notice on Citizens' Radio ordering it to stop operating all radio equipment which has caused harmful interference to an aeronautical communication channel.
On March 22, the Office of the Telecommunications Authority received a complaint from the Civil Aviation Department that sound broadcasting signals had interfered with its communication channel.
The interference originated from the unlicensed radio transmitting equipment installed in an industrial building in Chai Wan and operated by Citizens' Radio.
As the interference poses a risk to aviation safety, the authority ordered Citizens' Radio to immediately cease operating its radio transmitter, under section 32J of the Telecommunications Ordinance.
The authority will monitor the situation closely and take enforcement action as appropriate if Citizens' Radio fails to comply.
