Anti-smoking officers commit to duties

*
Food & Environmental Hygiene Department

Twelve Government staff associations today affirmed they will not "turn a blind eye" to people lighting up in non-smoking areas.

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department said today it has formulated clear guidelines and provided training to staff to implement fixed penalties for smoking offences.

It said it has maintained close dialogue with staff and staff associations and noted their concerns. It thanked the staff associations for their constructive views on enforcement duties and formulating guidelines. But the department regretted some have reservations about enforcing the law against smoking and called on them to discharge their duties in full.
