CE relays journalists' views to the Mainland

Chief Executive Donald Tsang
Following up: Chief Executive Donald Tsang says he will maintain close contact with Central authorities to ensure Hong Kong journalists' safety in Xinjiang.

Chief Executive Donald Tsang says he has relayed the media's response to the Xinjiang authorities' statement on the treatment of Hong Kong journalists by police in Urumqi to Mainland authorities.

Speaking after attending the 9.9.9 Life With No Drugs Event in Wan Chai this afternoon, Mr Tsang said he attached great importance to the incident and is aware of the media's response to the statement the Xinjiang Information Office issued yesterday.

The Government has reflected Hong Kong journalists' views to the State Council's Hong Kong & Macau Affairs Office and Xinjiang authorities.

"I will maintain close contact with the Central authorities to ensure Hong Kong journalists' safety in Xinjiang and facilitate their legal reporting activities there," he said.
