Recruitment agent jailed for bribery
*

A recruitment agent has been jailed four and a half months by Eastern Magistracy for conspiring with a former food manufacturing company manager to accept $100,000 in illegal commissions in the recruitment of part-time promoters.

Four Seas Mercantile was a food trading and manufacturing company which recruited part-time staff to promote its products. The company's manager Andrew Toh, 46, was responsible for selling and promoting the products.

Sum Cheuk-ming, 45, a recruitment agent, suggested he could refer promoters to Four Seas and charge each promoter a referral fee of $50 per day, with half going to Toh as a reward. Toh agreed to the proposal.

Between January 2003 and November 2007 the two conspired together for Toh to accept the illegal commissions amounting to $100,000.

Sum was found guilty of conspiracy to accept advantages. Toh was earlier sentenced to three months' jail for his role in the case.
