3 jailed for passport offences

Immigration Department

The District Court has jailed three Hong Kong residents for up to 32 months for illegal transfer of passports.

Chui Ming-hong, who acted as a passport broker, was jailed 32 months, while Fong Chi-kit and Cheung Hing-fat, who sold passports to Chiu, were sentenced to 10 months' jail.

On June 11 last year an immigration officer disguised as a prospective passport seller contacted Chui in response to a newspaper advertisement. Chui was subsequently arrested and two Hong Kong passports with the identity of Fong and another person were found in his possession.

Fong said he saw an advertisement in a newspaper and sold his passport to Chui for $800. Cheung said he had stolen his elder brother's passport which he sold to Chui for $400.
