6 jailed for street swindle

Hong Kong Police

Four women and two men, aged 48 to 59, have been jailed up to three years and eight months by the District Court for conspiracy to defraud and obtaining property by deception.

The Mainlanders were arrested March 3 attempting to dupe a 61-year-old woman. One woman pretended to look for a ritual master and approached the victim. The second claimed she was the master's friend while the third said she was the master's granddaughter. The victim was told her son had ill fortune and she should take out her money and valuables for blessing. Two men and another woman acted as lookouts.

One of the women is connected with another similar case in Yuen Long on February 12 involving $230,000.
