44 arrested for drink driving
*
Hong Kong Police

Police have arrested 44 people for drink-driving offences and asked 173 motorists to take voluntary breath tests in a citywide road safety campaign.

The October 1 to 7 campaign also reminded motorists enhanced penalties for drink driving will take effect early next year.

Police Regional Road Safety Team officers visited bar and restaurant areas and distributed 16,656 leaflets. Strict enforcement was taken during the National Day holiday period, with 815 roadside checks conducted.

Drink-drivers face three years' jail, a $25,000 fine and disqualification from driving.
