Customs & Excise Department

Customs have arrested two shop owners for dealing in game consoles with circumvention devices which allow customers to play pirated games.

Officers raided two shops in Tsuen Wan yesterday and seized four consoles and 270 infringing game discs. The seizure was worth $26,000. Two men aged 22 and 36 were arrested.

Additional provisions imposing civil and criminal liabilities on people who deal in circumvention devices or provide a circumvention service for commercial purpose have come into effect since April 25. A person convicted of these offences could be liable to a $500,000 fine and up to four year's jail.
