Dangerous duo: These two toy lanterns have been declared unsafe by the Customs & Excise Department. | |
One lantern had sharp points at the end of its metal wires and did not carry instructions on safe battery usage. The correct battery polarity and voltage were not marked on the battery compartment while the name and address of the local manufacturer, importer or supplier were not shown.
The other lantern had slits next to the movable segments at the bottom of it which can trap children's fingers.
The two lanterns were contained in a plastic bag less than 0.0381mm thick, posing a suffocation hazard to children.
Customs has served the two concerned retailers with notices prohibiting their supply of the toys concerned.
