1,664 arrested in tripartite anti-crime blitz

Hong Kong Police

Police have arrested 1,664 people and seized illicit goods worth more than $118 million in a tripartite anti-crime joint operation with Guangdong and Macau authorities.

 

Officers raided 3,700 locations June 1 to July 16 and shut down 32 vice establishments and 20 gambling dens.

 

They arrested 1,040 men and 624 women for various offences. Of them, 485 were Mainlanders, including 97 illegal immigrants.

 

Police seized more than 17kgs of ketamine, 13.7kgs of cocaine as well as various psychotropic drugs worth more than $14.6 million, along with 300,000 pornographic and pirated compact discs worth more than $12 million.

 

Officers also seized soccer and horseracing betting records worth $76 million and a large amount of contraband cigarettes and counterfeit items like leather bags and watches.
