Wage offender gets community service order

*
Labour Department

The director of Po Yuen (TO's) Machine Factory has been ordered by Kwun Tong Magistracy to serve 200 hours' community service for wage offences.

The company failed to pay wages totalling $44,000 to three employees within seven days after the expiry of the wage period and termination of employment.

The Employment Ordinance states wages due upon expiry of the last day of the wage period or upon termination of employment should be paid in seven days. Employers who fail to settle without reasonable excuse are liable to three years' jail and a $350,000 fine.
