3 jailed for passing fake banknotes

The District Court has jailed three Mainlanders for up to 42 months for passing counterfeit bank notes.

 

Lin Caiwu, 35, Fang Fenxia, 28, and Fang Fenlan, 25, shopped at pharmacies and convenience stores in Tsz Wan Shan and Diamond Hill with RMB$100 banknotes on July 2.

 

One shop assistant called Police suspecting the banknotes were fake. Officers arrested the trio and seized 14 counterfeit RMB$100 banknotes.

 

They also made purchases at North Point shops with the fake notes in June. Twenty-eight additional fakes have been seized.

 

They were charged with one count of conspiracy to pass counterfeit notes while Lin was also charged with one count of custody of fake notes.
