ICAC sees 18 complaints in 2007
*

The Independent Commission Against Corruption Complaints Committee received 18 complaints comprising 43 allegations against the anti-graft body and its officers last year.

Its annual report for 2007 said 40% of the complaints were related to neglect of duties, 30% abuse of power and 28% officer misconduct. The remainder concerned the commission's procedures.

The committee held three meetings last year to consider papers and reports on 23 complaints comprising 65 allegations. Two allegations were substantiated which concerned incorrectly addressing the complainant's name and failure to accurately itemise documents in a seizure list. The ICAC has advised the officers and implemented improvements.

The committee monitors the handling of non-criminal complaints against the ICAC and its officers, reviews the ICAC's procedures, guidelines and practices which may lead to complaints and makes recommendations for improvement.
