Customs & Excise Department

Six men and a woman aged 34 to 59 have been arrested for smuggling 774,400 illicit cigarettes and 4,000 counterfeit memory cards worth $1.2 million.

Officers arrested a 42-year-old driver and seized 618,400 illicit cigarettes and the memory cards from his lorry at Sha Tau Kok Control Point yesterday. Another 156,000 cigarettes were seized from a logistics company's offices in Tsuen Wan and Hung Hom.

Officers later arrested four men and a woman at the branches when they were collecting the illicit cigarettes.

On delivery of the memory cards to the consigner at a commercial building in Sheung Wan, officers arrested another man collecting the goods.
