5 arrested for selling illicit merchandise
*

Customs officers have arrested five people for selling stickers and stamps with unlicensed Japanese and American cartoon designs at sales booths and online.

Officers raided a company in Wan Chai and sales booths in Causeway Bay, Kowloon City and Sha Tin yesterday seizing 1,400 stickers worth $130,000. They also found stamps at the Sha Tin sales booth.

Two men and three women aged 35 to 44 were arrested including a company director. Computer and printing equipment were also seized.

The target customers were youngsters who would place an order and the syndicate would print out the stickers showing the customer's name.

The syndicate operated a website to invite patronage and rented booths in popular locations for sticker and stamp sales.
