Anti-drink driving campaign launches
*
Hong Kong Police

Police will conduct a city-wide campaign December 16 to January 2 to boost road-safety awareness on drink driving.

Police regional road safety teams will invite the public to take voluntary breath tests and distribute publicity leaflets in bar areas to appeal to drivers not to drive after drinking. Strict enforcement will be taken against offenders.

There were 13,907 traffic accidents in the first 11 months of 2007, up 411 cases on a year earlier, with 97 cases related to drink driving.

Drink-drivers face three years' jail, a $25,000-fine, and disqualification from driving.
