*
Hong Kong Police

Police have issued 125 summonses and 13 verbal warnings to minibus passengers for seat belt offences in a city-wide operation.

The 24-hour blitz, ended on December 11, also saw eight fixed-penalty tickets issued to minibus drivers.

In the first 10 months of this year, there were 932 traffic accidents involving minibuses, resulting in 1,563 casualties, compared with 867 accidents and 1,367 casualties in the same period last year.

The maximum penalty for not wearing a seatbelt, where provided, is a $5,000 fine and three months in prison.
