5 arrested for food fraud

Customs & Excise Department

Two men and three women aged 29 to 56 have been arrested after Customs officers raided a Fanling food distribution company and four grocery shops, seizing 620 jars of counterfeit preserved dried cabbage worth $5,000.

Four groceries, two in Fanling, one in Sham Shui Po and one in Tuen Mun, were raided.

The seized goods contained no harmful substances but as the food is believed to come from the Mainland, Customs has informed authorities there for follow-up action. The Centre for Food Safety has also been alerted to the case.
