Safety first: The Civil Aid Service will hold its Mountaineering Safety Promotion Day September 23. |

To promote safe hiking the Civil Aid Service will hold a Mountaineering Safety Promotion Day September 23 at Civil Aid Headquarters in Yau Ma Tei 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Advanced mountaineering instruments and systems, climbing techniques and search and rescue skills will be shown. The use of digital maps, global positioning systems, night vision equipment and computerised weather maps will also be demonstrated.
People can take part in interactive activities like abseiling, climbing and orienteering.
Safety talks will be held on mountaineering, first aid, prevention and handling accidents, weather, hiking safety, basic mountain search skills and sport climbing. A major talk will be held explaining how government departments conduct emergency search and rescue operations.
There will also be performances by Police dogs, bicycle stunts and marching bands.
A free shuttle bus service will run between Jordan MTR station exit C2 (Bowring Street) and CAS Headquarters from 9.15am to 4.30pm.
