Hong Kong Police

Two men aged 30 and 26 have been jailed by the District Court for up to four years and eight months for conspiracy to defraud.

A 44-year-old woman applied for an office assistant's job and started working in a company in Wong Tai Sin in June 2005. She later came across the two defendants who claimed they were the company's sales representatives and duped her into purchasing a diamond bracelet and reselling it to a designated customer at a profit.

They further lured the victim to buy four more bracelets for $15,700 from July 9 to 11 that year. She was suddenly sacked the following day.

Police arrested the two men the same month and jointly charged them with one count of conspiracy to defraud.
