Mainland woman jailed for bogus marriage
*
Immigration Department

A Mainland woman has been jailed 12 months by Sha Tin Magistracy for bogus marriage.

Chen Xiulian, 53, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud and one count of making false representation to an Immigration officer.

Chen was intercepted at Lo Wu control point on January 8 and admitted she had agreed with a middleman to enter into a false marriage with a Hong Kong resident for $5,000.

She intended to use the false marriage to acquire a 90-day visit endorsement to enter Hong Kong for illegal work and eventually to settle. She married her bogus husband on the Mainland in June 2005.
